What a great week!

This week was a wonderful one!

Monday we went on a nice hike. One that we went on a few weeks ago! But this time it didn't rain. The weather was perfect!

Then this week people continued to progress really really well!

One funny story and one miracle from the week.

First on Monday night we met with this guy. It was our second time meeting with him and he had a baptismal date. He told us at our lesson that he was reading and praying daily and excited for his baptism. After the lesson we go down to our bikes and Elder Heaton says woah look at that spider by the gate. And I was looking and then I noticed there were 2 stickers that the church makes here. We were like holy cow what are these doing here? There must be a less active member that lives here! So we pulled out the ward list and find the address we are at. Well then it turns out the address is the same as the investigator we just visited. So we look at the name and it is the investigators name. Then we called him and were like "You were baptized before?" And he had no idea what we were talking about.. He completely forgot his baptism. But yeah.. It turns out he is already a member! Good thing we didn't baptize him again!

Now on Thursday we were meeting with David! He was found like the week before I got here and we started teaching him the lessons then. He started out not very interested but happy to listen to us. Well his interest and excitement has grown over the past 2 months and as he has kept the commandments he's become super super happy! At the beginning of our lesson we explained that we were going to finish the last of the commandments and that he'd be ready as far as lessons go to be baptized. Then we asked how he was feeling about baptism, he had a baptismal date of July 8. He replied that he wants to do it! Then we asked how he felt about moving his baptism up to this week and he replied that he wants to do it as soon as possible and he had thought of that as well! So his baptism will be on Thursday! I'm super excited for him!

Oh and the Sisters found someone a while ago and then we taught him cause he was a man and then it turned out he didn't live in our ward. But he go baptized on Saturday and we got to go! Super awesome!

I know that the church is true. I know that the gospel brings happiness and can change anyone if they let it! I know that Jesus Christ atoned for our sins and that through him we can find real peace.

I love you all! Have a great week!

17 Miracles

This week was one of the best of my mission.

On Monday we went camping with our ward. At least for the afternoon.. Then we had to go home! But  it was a ton of fun to get out of the city and go to the beach and a big field! While we were there we played a lot of frisbee and had a great time!

Saturday night we watched 17 Miracles with a couple of our investigators! It was really great! But this week we had more than 17 miracles of our own. Every single day we went and met with 2 to 3 people which is a ton for here and each and every one of them made noticeable progress through the lessons! It was incredible! Everyone is reading the scriptures and starting to pray and learning how to repent and it has been a real blessing to be able to see it all happen. I can't explain how blessed I've felt this week.

We are teaching the commandments to several of our investigators now and they have been to church 2 or 3 times as well. It is looking like several of them will be prepared to be baptized in the coming weeks.

Also we had one investigator pass his baptismal interview, but he is still not quite ready to be baptized. The last 2 times he did interviews in 2012 and 2013 his mom and daughter passed away. So now he is determined to wait until God tells him in a dream to be baptized to go through with it. We are doing our best to help him seek an answer through prayer and scripture study. He has already had some dreams that convinced him of the truthfulness of the church. He's so close!!

I love it here. I shared my testimony in church yesterday of repentance, the Book of Mormon, and Jesus Christ and His Atonement and I'll share it here as well. A few weeks ago at a mission conference I learned something I hadn't ever realized before. When Joseph Smith went into the grove he wasn't just curious about which church was true. He  wanted to know because he wanted to repent and have a remission of his sins. I love that. It helps me understand why he could be so sincere and seek with such great intent. I know that the church restored by him does allow us to find that remission of our sins. My favorite scripture is Ether 12:27 "If men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness..." When I got to the MTC this scripture became real. I quickly realized many of my weaknesses and mistakes. As I studied the Book of Mormon it felt like everything I read was telling me I needed to repent and be better. It was a somewhat painful experience.. But after weeks of praying and seeking that remission of sins that Joseph was seeking there came a time when the pain, guilt, and inadequacies faded and an enormous sense of peace and joy replaced them. I know that Jesus Christ atoned and died for us. I know that He lives and leads His church. I know that as we turn to Him we can find peace, joy, and power to change. I love Him.

Have a great week. I love you all!

Surprise!

Monday we went to an amusement park. It was super super fun! A couple of great members and the Elders we live with and the sisters in our ward all came and it was a blast.

Tuesday I answered a call from President and he asked if he could talk to Elder Olsen. Elder Olsen's mouth dropped while he was talking to him. He got called to be the new recorder in the office because his Chinese is so good. He moved the next day! So now I have a new companion! It is Elder Heaton! He was in my zone when I was in Songshan so I have been on exchanges with him before! And he is awesome! We had a really really great second half of the week together!

Elder Heaton is really good at talking to everyone! It has been really great and we found a couple of really cool people. I'll share one fun experience we had this week! One of the best on my mission so far. We were biking to the train station and waiting at a stop light and then all of the sudden Elder Heaton was like lets follow that car all three of them just waved to me. I didn't see the car but said okay and we turned around and followed it into the lane behind us. Then Elder Heaton said it had turned down this road and we look and it is a dead end and there is no car. But then we see that it leads down into a parking garage of the apartment complex next to us. We were about to turn around and go back but something came over us and we were like lets keep following it! So we biked into the parking garage. On the first floor we didn't see it. So we dropped down another floor. Still didn't see it so we dropped down another. Still didn't see it so we dropped down one more. And finally we found this car with a family getting out of it! They were pretty surprised to see us down there, but they were really nice and said go up to the first floor and you can talk to our son there. So we went back up and met there son there and he is awesome! He lived in Dayton Nevada for a year in high school. Now he is 19. While he was there he had Mormon friends that would invite him to the church to play basketball with them! What a miracle! Haha we had to run to the train station so we just quickly set up an appointment with him and now we will be meeting this week!

Saturday I had an opportunity to go back to Xindian for the baptism of a man that I taught while I was there! It was really special to be able to see all of the members there again! I love them all so much! It was a nice service. Then we hopped on the MRT and went to Songshan for another baptism of someone that Elder Heaton taught before they realized he lived in Songshan. It was also really great to see all of the members there again! They are all doing really well!

So it was a pretty spectacular week.

Today we are going to our ward camping activity. We can't camp of course, but it will be fun!

I love you all! Have a great week!

Progress

I just want to say congrats to Brinn for taking state in the 100, 200, and 400!! That is so sweet! Way to go! I love you!

Last Monday we went on a sweet hike in Neihu. Right when we got there it started raining and it poured on us the whole time! It was like swimming;) Haha really great though. Taiwan is beautiful and we had a lot of fun.

Then this week was just awesome. All of the people we are meeting with are starting to show some great signs of progress. We are teaching a man named Joe. He is doing super well! We met with him for the first time 3 weeks ago after knocking into him like 7 weeks ago. Now he has been to church twice and loves it! While we went by his house yesterday he told us that in our lesson on Friday my companion Elder Olsen told him exactly what he needed and he's been thinking about it for the last couple of days and how he wants to change! Also when we met him on Friday his wife gave us homemade cake and it was the best thing ever! But then even better her husband was helping their son and she came up and started whispering to us and said "Thank you guys so much.. Please keep coming. He really needs you guys he's been having a rough time I won't say too much but please keep coming he needs you guys!" That was a really sweet moment. I love their family a ton!

Also the sisters found someone on Wednesday and we met with him on Thursday then Saturday he came to a baptism and Sunday he came to stake conference! He is doing really awesome! His name is Dickie! He's just getting started but he has a ton of potential!

Saturday we had a special mission conference. Elder Quentin L. Cook came and it was a really really great meeting! We only had about an hour with him but I learned a lot! He also bore a really powerful testimony! I'm so grateful for the chance to be serving here. I love my mission so much!

I know that the Lord has a plan for all of us and I know that the Book of Mormon is His words for us. I love the Book of Mormon a lot. The talks were all about the Book of Mormon in Stake conference and I was reminded how much I love it! We should all read it everyday!

Have a great week! I love you all!

Mother's Day

I'll be skyping in a minute so I won't say too much today! Just a few highlights!

There was an article in the Liahona in I think March about a spiritual feast so our stake has been trying to do something similar. Yesterday for Mothers day we did one in every ward and there was special musical numbers and talks that were supposed to be focused on the Savior and Mothers. It was a pretty big success! There were around 160 nonmembers who attended in the stake! Our ward had 22! It was awesome! And the spirit was really strong in the musical numbers! I love the power music has to bring the spirit!

Also we set some really solid baptismal dates this week with some really awesome people! I am so grateful to be serving here! We have been blessed with a ton of great people to teach lately and they are starting to progress and it is so exciting:)

I love you all! Have a great week!

Joy

Being a missionary brings the most joy and satisfaction of anything I've ever done. I love it!

Monday Amber and her friend took us to 九份and野柳 one is an old lane full of shops and food! They made the movie spirited away based off of there and then the other was a rock that looks like a head next to the ocean! It was pretty fun! Lots of really really good food and beautiful sights!

Then this last week we had a goal to find people to teach because that is something we have been struggling with! We saw some great success. We were biking when we felt we should turn and go check out a park we'd never been to before. There were only 5 people there and they all turned out to be a family and the mom described herself to us as an investigator of another church. She was really interested in what we were sharing and now she is going to bring her whole family to church next Sunday! That was a great miracle!

This week we also went to the home of a man that we knocked into several weeks ago and has been attending the sisters English class with his 5 year old son. He and his wife were both really interested in the message of the restoration! At the end they were like "Thank you guys! I learned some stuff today. You accomplished your goal as missionaries" They were really sincere but it kind of felt like they were saying "well that is a cool story.." But then we shared the last two paragraphs of the introduction to the Book of Mormon and the man was like can I really get an answer? This is exactly what I need! He then committed to begin reading the book and seeking an answer for himself. Then he said that destiny had come;) haha we are really excited about them!!

I know that the Lord is directing His work. I know that as we do all we can to be prepared to participate in that work that He will give us chances to bless the lives of others. We had ward council this week and at the end of the meeting the Stake High Councilman said something I really liked, "The gospel isn't about what you know, it is about what you do" It is easy to talk.. But how many of us are willing to really change things and really make things happen.

I have been trying to become a doer. And I am also trying to change some things about the way I work as a missionary so that we can have more spiritual power because I learned in Preach My Gospel the other day that that is what will really make us more effective!

I love you all! Have a great week!

Swell

The last couple of days have been swell!

I feel like we were just emailing! Hmm... The last couple of days went by really quickly! All is well here in Taoyuan.

I have been pondering a lot lately about how we might use a more effective way to find people to teach. I am happy to spend all of my time on the street and knocking doors.. I really enjoy it! But I also feel there must be a more effective way to help people come unto Christ! We will keep trying things and hopefully find something that works:)

I  just want to share my testimony that I know this church is true. The other day we were chatting with a member and she said she came to church by herself and she has a testimony of God then she said "Do you actually believe this though?" That and a few other experiences this week got me thinking. I do know it is true. People ask us sometimes if we have ever had like visions or talked with God and the answer for me is no, but I have had countless experiences as I try to do and be my best that I witness the hand of God in my life and that is more than enough for me! This week I'd like to invite everyone to keep working to build your testimony! Keep seeking to build your faith in the simple principles of the gospel!

I also didn't take any pictures this week! I'm sorry!

I love you all! Also I love the song "Love is spoken here" we are singing it for Mothers day and we were practicing yesterday.. I always remember family home evenings back home when we sing it! Such a great song!

Knocking

This past week we did the most consecutive knocking I've ever done on my mission! We pretty much knocked everyday.. If we had time we went to a neighborhood and knocked! It was cool! We met several people/families that were willing to set up!

On Monday night we also ran into a giant Buddhist parade! All of these trucks with glowing lights drove by and then people carrying a box on sticks (kind of looks like a casket but vertical) walked by and people lined up in the road and knelt down and then they carried the box over their heads! It was really really interesting!

Hmm.. It rained a bit this last week too! But we have several people that are looking quite interested in being baptized! There is a man we are teaching who has met with missionaries off and on since 1963 and a couple of years ago he dreamed of the Book of Mormon and missionaries giving him one and then he ran into them and he is very confident that the Book of Mormon and our church is true. But the last two times he's tried to be baptized he had someone in his family pass away so he is somewhat hesitant. But since we have been meeting with him he's been having more dreams and he for the first time has gotten really really into the Book of Mormon. Before we met him he'd already read all of the standard works and written reports on them and stuff. But he said this time since we called him its been different and he is hungering for the words in the Book of Mormon. He said that the Book of Mormon and Bible are the only books he will read because they are the only things that are real spiritual food.. He is a genius and has a ton of really strong opinions that we aren't able to change but as he has been reading the Book of Mormon he is resolving all of his own concerns! It has been such a blessing and such an interesting experience to get to know him! He is incredible! And he says he feels he will most likely be baptized in May, but it can't be forced he still needs to dream the right dreams to go through with it! I don't know what to do other than pray for his dreams..:)

That was our more interesting story for the week!

I learn so much from all of the people around me and I'm so grateful for each of their examples!

Today I want to share my testimony of the Savior and His love for us! In preparation for mothers day we watched the talk by Elder Holland in 2015 "Behold thy Mother". As I watched that talk I reflected on my own life growing up and how much my mom did for me! I am always amazed by her and how much she sacrificed and gave for us every single day! And she never said she was tired or complained! After looking back on that and reflecting I was better able to understand the Saviors love for us. He gave everything he had for us too. Don't forget how much He loves you! And don't forget how much your mom loves you either:)

Have a great week! I love you all!

Love, Elder Jensen!

Happy Easter

Well this past week was great! Monday Sunny came up from Xinzhu and we got to meet her teacher that lives here and have lunch and go out with them!

This week was my companions birthday and everybody went all out to help him celebrate! It was the most exciting birthday I've seen on my mission! People wrapped his bike while we were teaching English and made a backpack out of tape and crackers and chips bags and gave him lots of cakes! It was awesome:)

Then we spent the week preparing for our baptism on Saturday. Brother Liu has gotten close to baptism before and then backed out because he didn't feel ready so we were really careful to build his faith through scriptures and help him stick with his decision everyday throughout the week! It came down to Saturday an hour before the baptism and we hadn't been able to get a hold of him that day.. I got a little bit worried! But as we were biking over to the church to set up he called us and told us he was coming!! It was such a relief! His baptism was awesome. He spoke after about how it felt super good to have a fresh start! I'm so grateful for Jesus Christ and that start that he gives to each of us! We are so lucky to have a knowledge of His Atonement and Resurrection! Let us share it with those who may not have had a chance to hear yet!

I feel like the Lord has really blessed me here in Taoyuan. I am having a lot of experiences to help me to achieve my goals and also to teach me a lot of things that I still need to learn!

We have a mom and her daughter that have come to church 4 times already and they love church! They are really busy though and we haven't had a chance to share with them the lessons! It is looking like we will be able to start this week though and they are looking really great! I love them!

We have been trying to work on developing good relationships with the youth and helping them to share the gospel with their friends through Facebook or Line. So far we have just been inviting people to share videos and then we will be following up with them to see what friends may have expressed interest in them!

That is about all I've got for this week:) Sorry it is a little shorter!

Oh I just thought of one more story I can share! We were doing our language study in a park and I asked a guy as he walked by if he would like to read the scriptures with me. He sat down and so I read a few verses to him but he didn't really understand and he wanted leave.. Then I started talking to him and he asked if I could sing! So I ended up singing two hymns to him! I thought it was a pretty neat experience! I love that we have so many opportunities to interact with so many different kinds of people here! It is a huge blessing to be able to see people smile because of a little wave or a hello!

Have a great day and week! I love you all!

Conference

Well last Monday I went to Xindian to celebrate Elder Muellers birthday with him and some members! It was pretty fun to go back and go to our favorite place to contact on the river!

Then Tuesday we had zone conference. During the conference we learned about following the spirit and President Jergensen shared something I'd never noticed before in 1 Nephi. In chapter 2 Nephi says he is young and then in chapter 4 he says that he is a man. So we talked a lot about what happened in between there that made him a man. It was really interesting!

I think my favorite part of the conference though was that someone walked in to the chapel during it and my companion and I had a chance to go out and talk to him. He said he's seen our church before and just decided to come in today. He didn't live in our area but he wanted to learn about the church and because it was zone conference we just grabbed the missionaries over his area and they got to meet him! It was the perfect time for that man to come! Pretty cool!

3 other things really quickly that happened this week!

1. Went on an exchange and got to teach the most amazing couple ever! They are super awesome!! Named Ken and Hellen. I hope that they were able to get there answers at conference. They came to 3 sessions!

2. We set up with a former and went and met him Saturday morning. He told us he has read all of the standard works and thinks our church is the best church there is but he still has a few questions that haven't allowed him to be baptized. We invited him to conference. Sunday morning before conference he said that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are one and he doesn't think us saying they are separate is correct. Then in conference there were 2 talks that hit on the Godhead and it was so perfect. I just looked at my companion in awe.. Then he told us it was really good and he received a lot of revelation. So we will meet him later this week and see how he feels about making the last steps and going for it!

3. We got to meet a man in our wards father! The man is getting ready to go on a mission and so we told the dad that we hoped we could give his son a chance to experience missionary life by teaching his dad all of the lessons and so he could see what it is his son will be doing for the next 2 years! He happily accepted! Hopefully the son can help his dad be baptized before his mission!! That will be a great experience to help carry him through his mission!

I know that the prophets are called of God! My goal from conference is to follow my feelings and act on first impressions! If it is good I will do it right away!

I hope you all have a great week! I love you!!

Super Week

This week was just swell! Monday we went bowling with a lot of our district and it was a blast!

Last week we didn't really have anyone to teach and didn't have anyone progressing towards baptism and  this week our area just completely flipped around! We were able to set 4 baptismal dates and we had 5 people come to church and they all have awesome potential to progress too!

I'll share a couple miracles and a funny story:)

First Tuesday we talked about setting baptismal dates in District meeting. We talked about maybe trying to tell someone you were going to invite them to baptism at the beginning of the lesson so they were ready for it. Well we tried it twice on Tuesday and it was awesome. Both people at the end of the lesson when we invited them to baptism were really ready for it and both said yes!

We spent last week cleaning out our phone.. It had messages from before I started my mission and it was so full it was really slow! Well through out that we found a couple of people really willing to keep meeting with missionaries! So we decided maybe we should take a look at some former investigators! And there are several that were almost ready for baptism and then stopped meeting for some reason. We met with one of them on Friday! He hadn't met with missionaries in about 2 months but he never stopped coming to church! Well we sat down and got  to know him and then we asked him if he had any questions for us and he said "If I want to be baptized next week can you guys help me set that up?" We were shocked! What a great surprise! So we went over the interview questions with him and then last night he passed his baptismal interview and will be baptized in the coming two weeks! We have been really blessed here!

Also Sunday we talked with a couple of members who have people they hope we can start teaching!

And I asked our Bishops wife how her week was and she said it wasn't very good.. So we decided to go and heart attack their house! They are one of the coolest families ever! Any way we got off our bikes in front of their house and out walks bishops wife! Then from behind us bishop drives up in his car! Great timing;) We just pretended that we just went there to knock on the doors on their street and waited until they left, but it was pretty funny!

I'm looking forward to Conference next week! I can't wait!!

There are a few places in the scriptures where people have a big change of heart! This week I've been thinking about what we can do to have that change of heart in ourselves and also to help those around us experience a similar change of heart! In the stories it is very simple. The people are obedient, they study the scriptures, listen to the prophet and exercise faith and then they change! So simple yet sometimes it can be hard. But I just invite everyone to take something you felt you should change or improve from conference and apply it! I'll do the same!

I love you all!

Have a great week!

Love, Elder Jensen

1. Oh one more story.. We got locked on our roof Monday during lunch! Thank goodness there are lots of missionaries here and some happened to be at the chapel and came and saved us! And thank goodness we had our phones!

2. Fun lunch with one of the people we found as we were cleaning out the phone.

3. Awesome Ye family in our ward we visited last night!

Moving

Well this week was good! It is always hard to remember what happened after a move..

I left Songshan and am now serving in Taoyuan in the first ward. I really loved Songshan a lot and will miss all of my friends there, but I'm excited to be here in Taoyuan!

This email may be a bit shorter! On Wednesday I got the notification I'd be moving and then we taught a few lessons and then that night we taught English class and then after class one of my Students was baptized! It was really sweet and she asked me to baptize her! Also June the woman we found hiking was there and I was really glad she got to see a baptism! It was hard to say goodbye to her! Her and her family are so cool! And then that night I went home and packed.. One of the district leaders didn't call and say he was home so we called him until 1 in the morning and they wouldn't answer so we ran over to there house to make  sure they were okay.. It was a late night! But a memory I'll never forget! And they were completely fine!

Thursday I got on a train with all of my luggage and came on down to Taoyuan. I've heard my entire mission that this is the promised land and that it is just incredible! Well it's true! This place is amazing and I'm so excited to get to serve here! The members are so good to us and so anxious to help us! We also have a ginormous beautiful chapel that we can take people on tours in! It is going to be a great time here:) Also my companion is the Olsen's from my home wards nephew! He is a genius!

Yesterday and today I was reading through the talk of King Benjamin in the beginning of Mosiah! I've been trying to find a way to help the ward here and I had a pretty strong feeling to make some kind of activity having to do with making our homes like a temple and safe place where all inside can feel the spirit.. There are several families here who have a father or some kids that aren't members yet! Our homes can be places where you feel the spirit and can come closer to God. I think that a home that is like a temple can even help those that aren't members have big changes and desire to come to church! But I haven't been able to think of a good way to express what I'm thinking or how to go about doing it yet.. Any ideas? We have some cool stickers that say "home can be a heaven on earth" I'm sure those will help!

I would like to encourage everyone to think about what you can do to make your home more like a temple or more like heaven! We cleaned our house this morning and it felt awesome! But in addition to cleaning our homes we need to be clean ourselves! And diligent to searching the scriptures and keeping the commandments like the people of King Benjamin and then we will start to experience the change of heart that they did and our desire to do evil will start to diminish! I love you all! Choose something you can do to let your home become more like heaven!

Love Elder Jensen!

2.I promised my companion I'd feed him Texas roadhouse if we met our goal for last week! We did it! Texas Roadhouse was pretty tasty!
3.Taoyuan! Some members and the sisters in our ward. The Taiwanese one is Sister Huang and she was baptized in May of 2015 just a couple of weeks before I started my mission and now she's out here serving with us! Pretty sweet!

A great week!

Well this last week was pretty great! Our bishop took us hiking this morning! It was a lot of fun! We saw the trail we hiked a year and a half ago for the outdoor zone conference at the beginning of my mission! It brought back a ton of great memories! I love my mission in Taiwan!!

Monday we went to a old street in Shen Keng and ate some really delicious stinky tofu as well as ice cream wrapped with cilantro and a tortilla type thing! I never knew there was so much wonderful food that I hadn't tried yet;)

Then that night an investigator Elder Seamons that had disappeared called us crying and said maybe he needs a belief. We went and met with him right then and he was anxious to continue meeting with us! Then he got busy and didn't come to the appointment we set with him later in the week but I think that he will show up again and he has a good shot at progressing!

Also that night we had the chance to give a blessing to someone in our ward. I think that giving blessings is something that I've come to really appreciate! I think it is such an awesome opportunity to serve. After giving the blessing I felt peaceful and then I reflected on the first blessing I gave on my mission and how I had been scared and after was worried I had messed it up or something! the difference was pretty big! I'm grateful for all the things I've been able to learn to this point!

Tuesday there was a great zone conference about experiencing repentance! I'm trying to experience each day:)

The rest of the week was full of teaching lessons and going on splits with members of the ward so that my companion could take it easy.. He has a rash and the doctor told him to try not to walk or ride a bike, which is pretty much impossible!

We have about 4 investigators that we send a scripture to everyday to help them get the habit of reading! It is really cool to see how all sorts of cool scriptures show up when you start looking for them! And it is nice to be able to do things to help them through out the week rather than wait until we meet and then try to help them and then wait another week!

Saturday we were able to participate in the baptism of Brother Chen an 88 year old man who has been taught for like 8 months here! It was awesome! He was so happy that he could finally be baptized!

I feel like I say pretty much the same thing every week.. But when it comes to be monday and I write I just can't help but being so grateful for my mission and all of the awesome experiences I've had and continue to have. I know that Heavenly Father loves me. I know that He loves you.

I hope you all have a great week! I love you!

Love, Elder Jensen
